Japanese Shrines – New Year Celebration – Hatsumode ads
Here’s an interesting bit of Japanes culture I wasn’t aware ’till I read Danny’s New Year’s post: Japanese shrines (buddhist if I’m not mistaken) makes TV advertising campaigns for the new year’s celebration!
It’s called Hatsumode there, a traditional visit to a local shrine on the first day of the year which includes several traditional activities like drawing your fortune, burning incenses, buying charms, praying, etc.
As it’s a big source of income, shrines puts ads on the TV to invite people to go there.
