Superconductor Levitation on Magnetic Rails

By XSportSeeker, 12/02/2009 11:42

You know flying cars, trains and all that futuristic stuff? It can become true one day if there’s enough development on superconductors and magnetism.

This video is about several superconductors and magnetic properties and stuff that enables actual levitation.

I’ve seen these sometime ago actually. It’s not exactly new, so you might ask why don’t we already have cars and other means of transportation that uses the technology.

One thing I know is that those Neodymium magnets and specially the superconductors are not cheap to make, and there’s the problem with making the superconductor drop to the ideal temperature.
Not shure about what I’ll say now, but it seems there is some research to apply this idea to Maglev trains.
I suppose the Neodymium magnets could be replaced with electromagnetism at a cost… so what remains to be solved are superconductors and the cooling system.
Still far from Back to the Future II hoverboard, but interesting to see things like that are on research and could result in real products in the future! :D
