Funded by the European Comission and developed by researchers from Italy and Sweeden comes Smarthand – a robotic prostetic hand that not only can handle objects like a real hand would, it also can “feel” objects!

It’s an incredible upgrade to prostetics technology as giving the amputee a feeling of touch back is probably the most complicated issue to solve.

From Pixel Pickle comes Lylian, an interesting platformer with the looks of an adventure game.

Dunno how the game mechanics works, but it seems there are two superimposed worlds that can be switched with some game mechanics…
It’s still under development, but you can check for more info from time to time on the official Lylian website. Love the art there!

A shorter name would be “robotic cockroach”, since it reminds one. ![]()

Quoting the YouTube description: “Developed by P. Birkmeyer & R.S. Fearing, Biomimetic Millisystems Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley”.
Very interesting stuff… given the miniaturization of electronics – like cameras and sensors – this could get several interesting applications!

Agh… the 3.1 one was really awful.

Going back to… 1984 now, Hokuto no Ken or Fist of the North Star started airing on TV an year after being released on manga.
Kinda rare to find similar animes nowadays, specially with huge muscular men as protagonists…

But anyways, I still find it lots of fun.
Hokuto no Ken is also very known on the Internet because it’s the source of memes like:
- “You are already dead”
- “Omae wa mo shindeiru”
- ATATATATATATATATATA

BigBen Interactive goes a notch up the game fitness idea with a complete ergometric bike that can be attached to the Wii for exercising while having fun!

I didn’t buy much of the fitness crap on the Wii up ’till now.
The idea of attaching an ergo bike or other serious fitness stuff on consoles has been on my mind for quite a while now.
I personally find ergo bikes and trendmills too boring, having spent quite a while on those (because I really need it).
Having dropped several times and ultimately giving up on them, I have to say this game might convince me of buying a Nintendo Wii, as long as the game doesn’t come out with some ridiculous price tag.
I really hope game developers and consoles starts catching up with the whole gaming plus fitness idea… not as gimmicks only to sell the games to worried parents, but as something serious to aid and make exercising more fun.

Jie Qi and team from the MIT Media Labs made this “upgrade” to Pop-up books:

Including several paper thin electronic components.
Seems not everyone abandoned physical books as a media just yet…
