Watch this trailer for the soon to be released Assault Girls, a live action movie by Mamoru Oshii, the same guy behind Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, The Sky Crawlers and other worldwide famous anime titles.

Looks interesting huh? A post apocalyptic scenario where those named Assault Girls lives a daily battle against creatures that looks like Dune sand worms or something.

More bits of interesting info… Oshii also wrote and directed a live action short with one of the movie characters, named “Assault Girl: Kentucky no Hinako”, for a weirdly themed film anthology “Shin-Onna Tachiguishi Retsuden (The Women of Fast Food)”.

That live action short got a sequel (Assault Girl 2) on yet another film anthology – called “Kiru ~ KILL”.

So, it’s a pretty known thing among japanese otaku, though it’s the first time I myself am hearing about it.
Looks pretty entertaining!
Reminds me I need to hunt down several japanese movies I’m looking forward to watch for sometime now…
