Abandonware – Thexder (PC)
I couldn’t find a video for the PC version (which was the one I played), so here’s the Tandy version, which is pretty close:
Thexder was hard… so very hard. ![]()
It’s the first game I can remember in which you controled a robot that changed into a plane… a mix of Transformers and Mecha perhaps?
Anyways, getting around the controls was hard enough, but the hordes of weird enemies (some looked like flying hamburgers), irritating laser sound, the fact that you’d have quite oftenly to go back and forth to kill those enemies and tight spaces added to the difficulty.
Another interesting bit: your weapons was some sort of laser scan, and you had to kill enemies to recover the energy bar (if it depletes you’re dead). So I started giving food names for the enemies… like the hamburger, meatballs, etc.
But the music was pretty good, and the title song was none other than Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata… I think I first heard the music on Thexder. xD
And since japanese gamers seems to have a thing for extremely hard games, here’s a Hatsune Miku (Vocaloid) rendition of Thexder music:
Sweet!
