While doing a video documentary for my Journalism course, I decided to research a bit about some special effects used on a famous brazillian show (though there’s also a version in Argentina and Portugal) called CQC (Custe o Que Custar) which mixes comedy with journalism and a specially acid criticism to brazilian politics/culture.
Their effects looks kinda simple, but very funny:

Well, turns out it’s not that simple, so I ended up not learning how to do it… they hire an speciallized studio to do it.

From blog AkihabaraNews, a series of tokyo video tours that I’m a fan of!
This time the video shows much more of the urban Tokyo. Daimon is close to the end of the video… a traditional japanese gate lost in the middle of the city:

Along with DannyChoo’s Photo Walks, the objective is to show some sights of Japan that we usually don’t get.
And I bet some of these sights will show better why some people like Danny and Daimaou got “enchanted” by Japan, ultimately deciding to move there… and also the reason why I’d also like to move to Japan someday. ![]()
Huge help from Daimaou and Danny’s great skills for capturing the essence and beauty of those places (in details), of course. xD

Stephen Hobley built a fully working Jean Michel Jarre laser harp:

Which is pretty awesome, and he’s doing DIY explanations for those attempting to build one!

This is just like my dream of playing a game on a real movie theater…

…only it happened “at the new Cowboys Stadium, home of a 160′ by 72′ center hung 1080p LED wall, which just took the title of largest TV away from Kansas City”, according to the source.
Pretty responsive actually!
Immagine playing… dunno… Dead Space in this? You’d totally crap your pants.

This incredible war FPS, from the same makers of Operation Flashpoint, has something amazing you might not notice at first:

It runs so realistically nice because it’s actually running hundreds of AI controlled characters at the same time.
Opposite to mosts FPSs, the bottleneck on this game isn’t the graphics card, but processor power and speed, since it has to run this many AIs at the same time.
ArmA II was recently released by Bohemia Interactive, a team formed by ex-Codemasters employees responsible for Operation Flashpoint.

An interesting concept on prototyping stages that is shure to revolutionize drilling operations as we know them today:

When it comes to drilling, we pretty much still do it like the old ways: A physical diamond (or some very hard material) head that gets in contact with the rock to be drilled and there you go.
This of course implies in several limitations, as well as having to replace that expensive drill head every now and then.
This flame drill however, will change lots of things. It can go deeper, it’s 10x faster, won’t need the replacement of that drill head… very promising.

Strangely, this is nothing new… but Takara Tomy released a new version of the dog translation device:

Dunno how well it works, and it’ll only translate from “dog” to japanese… not that this alone isn’t impressive enough. ![]()
If you think you already heard about the company that sells this, you’re probably right. Takara Tomy is responsible for several strange new weird products and videos, like the Photo Printing Camera I posted sometime ago.
