Jubei Ninpucho (Ninja Scroll) live-action movie?
Quick news: Ninja Scroll‘s movie adaptation rights was bought by Warner Brothers and Appian Way production company(Leonardo DiCaprio) just a few days ago.
The good news? No, Leonardo DiCaprio is probably not acting in the movie.
But we all know how anime adaptations can get in Hollywood studios, right?
Alex Tse, writer for the recent Watchmen adaptation is writting the adaptation, and two team members of Appian Way are producing it together with Madhouse (which is, maybe, a good sign).
Both companies also bought the rights to produce two Akira (Katsuhiro Otomo) live-action adaptations.
I really really don’t like this.
Just a personal opinnion, but I think the anime culture and Hollywood should never mix.
But it’s very clear now how the western media is recognizing the importance and maturity of japanese animation.
Oh yeah, for those who don’t know Ninja Scroll (Jubei Ninpucho).. it started as a manga series that couple of years ago had a TV series adaptation. But the anime movie adaptation from early 90′s is still the most famous one.
It’s a very violent story that follows the path of Jubei, a ronin that lives at a historic feudal Japan. It’s a classic.
Here’s a trailer:
