Silent Demolition
Well, it’s not completely silent, but comparing to traditional methods, it’s like a fart near an airplane taking off.
Called daruma-otoshi, this method developed by japanese Kajima corporation uses computer contred pillars that allows the building to remain up while the crew makes the demolition floor by floor.
After one of the floors are completely demolished and the debree cleaned up, the pillars lower the building one floor, and the demolition resumes.
Watch the video:
It’s like the building is being swalloed by the earth or something.
The ingenious idea, according to the corporation that developed it, has lots of benefits, like:
- it’s safer;
- makes less noise;
- is less polluting;
- is 20% faster than a traditional demolition;
- and it’s easier to recycle the debree.
