Dr. Sbaitso

Some days ago, I was talking about old school computing…

Dr Sbaitso

Dr Sbaitso

…when I remembered about Dr. Sbaitso.

Well, most of the readers won’t know what I’m talking about, so I’ll explain.

Many many moons ago, when I bought my first sound card (Creative Sound Blaster PRO 8-bit), a little software called Dr. Sbaitso came with one of the install discs.

Yep, I’m from the time computers didn’t have video or sound cards.
When, in Brazil, they were still made only by ITAUTEC, we had to type texts with “Redator PC”, and boot discs were a necessity.
When monitors didn’t have colors (aside from the atomic green), 40Mb HDDs where the largest and most expensive ones (Seagate). and diskettes had 360Kb and where literally flexyble.

Back to Dr. Sbaitso… it was, supposedly, a “virtual shrink”.
Made by Creative Labs, it was actually an early attempt on artificial intelligence with synthesized voice.

Some Googleing brought me a downloadable version… and a pleasant surprize: It worked on Windows XP! (maybe it’s a port)

Download it… those who already know, it’s a healthy nostalgic dose… for those who don’t know, it’s interesting to check it out.
Most people don’t know how old certain technologies really are.
