Taikodom

Been some time I didn’t see big non-casual games involving spaceships…
Taikodom
To compensate for it, suddenly a space MMO!

Taikodom is a different MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online game)… instead of a mean orc, a warrior with tons of armors and swords or a characters that looks like japanese animation, you are in control of a spaceship.

Taikodom

Game was made by Hoplon Infotainment, a brazilian company, and will be launched in September this year after a long development period.

But for those who want to see it now, there’s already a free beta version to download and play.
You just need to make a quick registration on the official page in english, download the files, and start playing.

Taikodom

Even not being a big fan of the genre, I downloaded it and played… found it very interesting and involving.
The universe behind the game is based on a literary piece, so the background is solid.

Notice that the last two images are in-game… I took some screenshots while playing (nickname).
Just reminding this is a beta version… the official game is promised to be even more refined, though you can already play it with no problems (at least the first couple of hours, which is how much I played ’till now).

Taikodom

It has a very familiar system for those who know MMOs… the game is based in quests (missions) and has several interesting elements. It’s possible to create corporations that works like WoW guilds, and instead of items, armors and weapons, the upgrades goes to your ship.

Wish to see more before downloading it? Check the video:

For english-language users: I didn’t fully test it, but it seems the game is ready for you too. Nevermind the images filled with portuguese text.

  1. [...] 4. [...] But anyways, it could be a very nice platform for brazilian game developers. Several interesting points: – Doesn’t need a physical media and uses a business model similar to cellphone games, which is one of the most successful markets for game developers in Brazil nowadays. – The fact that it blocks piracy, which is a big problem for small developers… the case of the vast majority of game companies in Brazil. – Usage of a reasonably known platform, with limited resources. This limitation might look bad at first, but truth is: It’s a good thing for gaming in Brazil since there are not big corporations or investments to create big triple A titles… except for rare games like Taikodom.
