PROTIP: It’s an owl!

YA RLY!

Sometimes called ORLY owl, this meme had the same origin from several other memes: the SomethingAwful.com forums.

Similar to Lolcats, O RLY? is also an image macro, a image with superimposed text.

This meme can be used in several situations, but mainly to display a lack of surprize.
For instance, when someone states something obvious, or that is obviously a lie.
Also, as a way to ignore something that has been said, usually people offending or ranting, or texts too long or too boring to read.

“O RLY?” is a corruption of “Oh, really?”.
It became so famous with lots of people posting on forums that eventually, came a reply:

“YA RLY!” is a corruption of “Yes, really!”.
