iPhone 3G
I was thinking of posting something about 3G iPhone (the new version of the iPhone which is soon to be released), but brother blog ViDig published a great topic about it (in portuguese)… so I’ll just borrow it.
Copy Paste Translate from ViDig:
“Apple recently released the 16Gb iPhone, but the major flaw on it is still there: the fact that it uses EDGE data transmission.
This will be solved soon with the release of the anxiously awaited 3G iPhone.
What else changes in the Apple cellphone?! ViDig summarized the best possibilities and accepted theories for you.
WHEN?
People are betting their chips it’ll be between May and July. Steve Jobs will give a keynote on June 9th on WWDC… and it’s possible he announce the new iPhone to June 29th, an year after the launch of the original iPhone.
PRICE?
Depends on cellphone operator’s offers, but today in US the iPhone 16Gb is out for 499 bucks, so it’s price may get lowered and the new 3G iPhone keeps the price.
WHAT CHANGES?
3G for shure, GPS with 99% probability. Better camera at 50%. Bigger screen and better resolution: 1% (it seems Apple is happy with these two).
About it’s shape, there’s a rumor that it’s back, currently made of metal, would be replaced for a black plastic slightly thicker than the previous back, and keeping non-replaceable battery (unfortunately).
Software-wise, we can safely wait for beautiful new apps integrating camera with GPS, etc.
If Apple is really adding the Broadcom chip to it’s funcionalities, then we can wait for many other improvements.
So, if you are willing to buy an iPhone, best thing to do would be waiting a little more to know what will happen. Because even if there are not many changes, at least there will be a major price reduction on 2G version.”
I’ll add some more info for those who want to know more:
Other possible improvements could be:
Mobile TV – Don’t know if it would be compatible with brazilian digital TV, since the american system is different… (Brazil uses japanese digital TV system)
Videoconferencing.
As you (brazilians) probably already know, Claro cellphone operator already closed the deal with Apple to sell the iPhone in Brazil, but there are already lots of unlocked iPhones in the black market… the same should happen to 3G iPhone.
